Step-by-step guides to help you create and manage your gigs

What Happens If Supporter Payments Fail?

When your campaign confirms, it means you have successfully reached your ticket goal and secured sufficient supporter demand for your event to proceed.

After confirmation, supporter payments begin processing.

In some cases, individual payments may not go through successfully. This can happen for reasons such as expired cards, insufficient funds or payment authorisation issues.

When this happens:

  • The supporter is notified
  • They are given an opportunity to update their payment details
  • Gigstarters will attempt to collect payment again within the payment window

Supporters who do not successfully complete payment within the required timeframe may lose their reservation.

What this means for your event

A failed payment does not mean your event has lost support.

At the point of confirmation, those supporters have already expressed intent to attend your event. Payment processing is simply the final step in completing that booking.

For this reason, your confirmed support level remains a strong indicator that your event has demand and is viable to proceed.

Continuing to sell tickets

You can continue selling tickets up until your event takes place.

This means your total support may continue to grow after confirmation, and your event can still reach additional attendees beyond the initial confirmed threshold.

Payment recovery

Gigstarters manages the payment recovery process on your behalf after your campaign confirms.

We automatically notify supporters when a payment fails and attempt to collect payment again within the applicable payment window. This helps ensure that as many supporter bookings as possible are successfully completed without additional effort from you.

At the same time, you can still view the status of supporter payments directly from your dashboard. This allows you to see which bookings are still pending and which payments have not yet been completed.

If you wish, you may also reach out to supporters directly to follow up on outstanding payments and encourage them to update their payment details.

Together, this ensures that payment recovery is actively supported on both sides — with Gigstarters handling automated recovery, and organisers having full visibility and optional direct engagement where appropriate.
